Ethiopia, one of the world’s oldest nations, has a favourable geological environment that supports a diverse range of mineral and geo-energy potential. It is a country of geographical contrasts, ranging from 116 m (381 ft) below sea level in the Danakil depression to more than 4,600 m (15,000 ft) above in the mountainous regions, with Ras Dashen, the fourth-highest peak in Africa, at 4,620 m (15,158 ft). Ethiopia’s endowment with a diverse range of minerals and rocks, some of which are abundant and of high quality, provides over a million youth and women with job opportunities as artisanal miners.
